U20 State Championships 2008/09 – Gold Medallists

U20 State Championships 2008 – GOLD Medallists Sydney Uni Women's U20 team won the State Championships in Sydney over the weekend. The team dominated city and country teams in every pool (boom tish) game moving into the finals as the clear favourite. In the semi-finals they came up against a fiesty UNSW team lead by an experienced goalie. UNSW took out a 4-goal lead early on as the SU girls struggled to find their game. Half-time came and the SU girls really had to draw deep to battle back in the second-half. They did just that and finished the game with a 4-4 scoreline. During overtime, the SU girls took back control of the game and finished on top to move through to the Grand Final match against Cronulla, who had come second behind them in the pool games. The final was played in front of a large crowd of supporters (including a strong SU crowd) at Ryde pool and the girls really put on their best game for them. From the second quarter onwards the girls took complete lead of the game (despite 4 players sitting on 2 kickouts and 1 player out on 3) and managed to extend it to a massive 5-goal win by the last whistle. All girls in the team lived up to expectation over the weekend and deservedly came away as state champions.
